Global Tech Leaders Launch Stargate Emirates AI Project in Abu Dhabi

  • Launch of a sovereign AI compute cluster with 1 GW capacity, expanding to 5 GW in Abu Dhabi

  • Led by G42 in partnership with OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, SoftBank, and Cisco

  • First compute cluster of 200 MW to go live by 2026

In a landmark announcement during the UAE-US Artificial Intelligence Partnership Summit, and in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, a consortium of leading global technology companies unveiled Stargate Emirates a massive sovereign AI infrastructure project aimed at accelerating AI innovation and cross-border collaboration.

The initiative will see the construction of a 1-gigawatt AI compute cluster at the new UAE-US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi, scaling up to 5 GW making it the largest facility of its kind outside the United States.

The project is being developed by G42, with OpenAI and Oracle managing operations, Cisco providing AI-ready secure networking, and SoftBank and Nvidia contributing hardware infrastructure, including Nvidia’s Grace Blackwell GB300 chips.

“Stargate Emirates represents a critical step in our UAE-US AI partnership. We’re building a bridge founded on trust and ambition, enabling AI to benefit societies and economies around the world,”
said Peng Xiao, CEO of G42.

“This is the first Stargate launched outside the US. We’re turning a bold vision into a global infrastructure for responsible AI,”
added Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

The new facility, powered by nuclear, solar, and natural gas, is expected to commence operations in 2026 with the activation of the initial 200 MW cluster. The project aims to serve national and international needs in healthcare, energy, finance, and transport, significantly enhancing the UAE’s digital sovereignty and AI leadership.

“Stargate will connect UAE’s enterprise data to the world’s most powerful AI models—establishing a new benchmark in digital autonomy,”
stated Larry Ellison, CTO and Chairman of Oracle.

The campus will span 10 square miles and feature a science park, research labs, and joint initiatives with leading academic institutions including Mohamed bin Zayed University of AI and École Polytechnique of France.

With the backing of the UAE and the United States, the Stargate Emirates project will play a pivotal role in building globally trusted, scalable AI infrastructure designed to support the next wave of scientific and societal breakthroughs.
