Google DeepMind Unveils New Image Editing Model in the Gemini App

  • Google DeepMind launches the world’s top-rated image editing model inside the Gemini app.
  • The update ensures consistent likeness of people and pets, even with changes in outfits or backgrounds.
  • Edited images include both a visible watermark and a SynthID digital watermark to indicate they are AI-generated.

Google DeepMind has officially launched a new image editing model integrated into the Gemini app, which has already been described as the world’s top-rated image editing technology. After receiving significant buzz during early previews, the feature is now available to all users worldwide.

Maintain Your Look While Editing

One of the key highlights of this update is its ability to preserve the likeness of people and pets across edits. Whether you’re trying a 60’s beehive hairstyle, previewing new wallpaper, or adding a tutu to your chihuahua, the model ensures subtle details remain accurate and realistic.

Users can now combine multiple photos—such as placing themselves alongside their pet—or change backgrounds seamlessly while still looking authentically like themselves. Once edits are complete, photos can even be re-uploaded into Gemini to be transformed into short, creative videos.

Advanced Editing Capabilities

The new update brings a wide range of advanced editing tools:

  • Costume and location changes: Keep your exact look while trying new outfits, professions, or even exploring different eras.

  • Photo blending: Merge multiple photos to create brand-new scenes, such as placing yourself and your dog on a basketball court.

  • Multi-turn editing: Start with an empty room, paint the walls, then add furniture, bookshelves, or decorations step by step.

  • Design mixing: Apply the style, color, or texture of one image to another—for example, creating rainboots inspired by flower petals or a dress patterned after butterfly wings.

Transparency Through Watermarking

To ensure transparency, all images created or edited in the Gemini app include both a visible watermark and an invisible SynthID digital watermark, making it clear they are AI-generated.

The enhanced image editing feature is available starting today in the Gemini app, offering users greater control and creativity while preserving authenticity.
