- Amazon Web Services (AWS) suffered a major global outage disrupting apps including Snapchat, Fortnite, and Airbnb.
- The problem originated from high error rates in AWS DynamoDB, with recovery efforts underway.
- The outage affected global users and major telecom providers such as Orange, Bouygues Telecom, and SFR.
United States — Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing division of Amazon, announced Monday on its maintenance website that it has been experiencing major outages for several hours, affecting connectivity to popular platforms such as Amazon, Snapchat, and Fortnite.
The disruption also impacted several other global services, including Airbnb and French telecom providers Orange, Bouygues Telecom, and SFR.
Widespread Connectivity Issues
AWS confirmed that it was seeing “a high error rate for requests” made to its DynamoDB database, which is widely used in websites, mobile applications, and gaming platforms.
While the company did not specify the exact cause of the outage, it said around 09:27 GMT that it had observed “significant signs of recovery” after implementing initial corrective measures.
AWS provides a broad range of on-demand cloud services — including data storage, databases, and AI solutions — powering countless websites and applications worldwide.
Global Impact Across Platforms
The outage was reported by Downdetector, a platform that monitors online service disruptions, noting that users across dozens of popular websites, social media platforms, and online games faced difficulties accessing their accounts.
Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI, posted on X that the company’s AI service was “currently unavailable,” attributing the issue to the AWS outage and confirming that the team was working on a resolution.
The incident also disrupted access to services such as Airbnb, Instagram, and Steam, as well as major online games like Roblox and Brawl Stars.
