“Program Aims to Localize Poultry Breeds and Achieve Self-Sufficiency in Line with Saudi Vision 2030 Priorities”
In a strategic move to stimulate startup growth and institutional investment in high-priority sectors under Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s National Livestock &Fisheries Development Program has approved the launch of specialized business accelerators focused on animal wealth and biotechnology.
The initiative was endorsed during the 20th meeting of the program’s board of directors, chaired by Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman AlFadley, and attended by representatives from various government entities and private sector organizations.
The initiative aligns with national efforts to accelerate sustainable development in the food security and health sectors.
Localizing Poultry Breeds to Boost Self-Sufficiency
A key element of the plan includes the establishment of a new center named, which will lead the localization of broiler chicken breeds with fully Saudi-owned genetic stock.
The objective is to reduce dependence on imported breeds and enhance the Kingdom’s capacity to export to regions with hot climates—contributing to national food self-sufficiency and increasing the competitiveness of domestic production.
Enhancing Veterinary Infrastructure
The board also approved several initiatives to modernize the Kingdom’s veterinary infrastructure. These include the establishment of a National Animal Vaccine Bank and the launch of a centralized digital platform for veterinary vaccine procurement, aimed at improving supply chain efficiency and ensuring timely access to vaccines.
Furthermore, the plan supports the development of local vaccine manufacturing units in collaboration with international partners such as Bioaftogen, thereby strengthening Saudi Arabia’s capabilities in the biomanufacturing sector.
Smart Slaughterhouses and Industrial Opportunities
The program also explored proposals to activate modern automated slaughterhouses, which will allow for the utilization of byproducts like leather, fertilizers, and recycled animal proteins.
These efforts are part of a broader agenda to boost value-added industries, minimize waste, and improve operational efficiency within the animal production sector.
Fostering Innovation and Investment
These initiatives come at a time of growing investor interest in Saudi Arabia’s agricultural and biological sectors, driven by expanding opportunities in agri-tech, supply chain solutions, and biomanufacturing.
The newly launched accelerators and infrastructure development projects are expected to attract venture capital targeting local innovation, while enhancing the Kingdom’s long-term biosecurity and food security
