Oman Signs Indian Partnership to Establish a Large-Scale Integrated Circuit Design Company

and Train 80 National Engineers

  • Oman has signed a cooperation program with the Indian company Kaynes Semicon to establish a specialized company in designing large-scale integrated circuits (VLSI).
  • Eighty Omani engineers will be trained for 12 months in semiconductor design technologies, followed by direct employment in the new company to strengthen the national workforce.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology in Oman, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, has signed a cooperation program with the Indian company Kaynes Semicon to establish a specialized company for designing large-scale integrated circuits (VLSI) in the Sultanate. The company will train 80 Omani engineers in semiconductor design technologies over a period of 12 months, followed by their direct employment in the new company, aiming to develop local talents and enhance innovation in this sector.

Dr. Ali Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, confirmed that Oman is working to build an integrated ecosystem for the semiconductor industry through partnerships with global companies. He pointed to previous agreements for training Omani engineers and developing AI chips. He explained that the cooperation program with Kaynes Semicon supports the qualification and employment of Omani engineers in specialized fields within the sector, contributing to the strategy of localizing advanced technologies and attracting quality investments, while positioning the center as a regional hub for chip design.

Salem bin Muslim Al-Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Human Resources Development, affirmed that the program is part of efforts to qualify national cadres and support the digital economy, noting that Oman is now prepared to attract investments to keep pace with global developments.

Fahad bin Sultan Al-Abri, Director General of the Directorate General for Sector Stimulation and Future Skills at the Ministry of Transport, described the signing of the cooperation memorandum as a significant step toward building a national semiconductor industry and enhancing Oman’s position as a regional center for advanced technologies within the framework of the National Digital Economy Program.
